Are sweet bags sold with twist ties?
Ties and ribbon are not included with the bags. The bags come open topped and ready for whichever closure you use at the counter.

Quoted per order, from £0.25 a pouch
Clear sweet bags with a block bottom or a flat base, plain or printed with your logo in one or two colours, closed with a twist tie, ribbon or heat seal. Made to the size of your 100 g, 250 g or 500 g scoop.
The short version
Sweet bags, also called confectionery bags, are clear film bags for loose sweets, fudge, toffee, chocolates and pick and mix. They come flat or with a block bottom that stands on a counter, and close with a twist tie, ribbon or a heat seal. Clear BOPP shows the sweets; a printed logo turns the bag into your packaging.

The bags in the photos are clear BOPP film, the same crisp, glossy film used on sweet shop counters across the country. It is stiffer than a polythene bag, so it holds a shape, and it crackles when handled.
A block bottom bag has side gussets and a rectangular base. Filled with jelly beans, it stands on a shelf with the top gathered in a twist tie.
A flat bag has two sides and a bottom seal. It is cheaper, takes a heat seal, and suits fudge slabs and chocolate buttons.
Sweet shops are the obvious customer, but half our orders come from businesses that sell sweets as a side line or a favour. Printed bags with a logo and a ribbon turn 100 g of sweets into a gift.
Chocolate that needs a foil barrier against heat and light can move to our foil gift bags for chocolates.
Sweets vary in density. Hard boiled sweets and jelly beans pack tight; marshmallows and foam shapes need twice the space. Fudge cubes stack, so they want a wider, shorter bag.
A 100 g scoop of mixed sweets fills a 100 × 220 mm flat bag to about two thirds, leaving room to gather and tie.
Tell us the scoop weight and the sweets and we size the bag from that. If you want a bag that stands open on a counter, see the base options on our flat bottom and quad seal bags range.
| Sweets | 100 g needs | Suggested bag |
|---|---|---|
| Jelly beans and hard boiled | About 120 ml | 100 × 220 mm flat |
| Fizzy and chewy mixes | About 180 ml | 100 × 220 mm flat |
| Marshmallows and foam | About 350 ml | 120 × 275 + 70 mm block bottom |
| Fudge cubes | About 100 ml | 120 × 200 mm flat, wide |
| Chocolate buttons | About 110 ml | 80 × 150 mm flat |
Clear BOPP is right when the sweets sell themselves. Nobody buys pick and mix without seeing it.
A frosted band across the middle gives a place for a one colour logo without hiding the contents. It also hides a slightly uneven fill.
Chocolate and fudge made with cream go soft in a warm window and bloom in light. A foil laminate, or a clear bag with a foil inner bag, is an option on request for those lines.
Food-contact, high-barrier and compostable film options are available on request and confirmed on your quote. The pouch film and barrier guide sets out the differences.
Most sweet shops gather the top and twist a gold or silver tie, as in the photos. It takes seconds and the customer can reopen the bag. Ribbon does the same job with a gift look for favours.
A heat seal closes the bag flat and tamper evident. It suits fudge sold through shops rather than over a counter, and it lets you add a tear notch.
A press-to-close zipper is not usual on clear sweet bags. If you want one, a clear stand up pouch does the job; see our resealable zipper pouches for sweets.
One or two colour print on clear film is the usual choice. A single colour logo repeated across the bag, as on the sweet factory bag in the photo, costs less than full colour and reads well through the sweets.
Full colour print on clear film works for a front panel, but colours look lighter than on white. Ask for a white under-print behind the panel if the logo needs to be solid.
Our designers set the repeat and send a free proof. The guide to artwork for printed bags covers file types.
A pick and mix counter on a Saturday needs a routine. This one keeps the bags neat and the scales honest.
Fudge sold through farm shops and delis is usually heat sealed rather than tied. The seal keeps the fudge from drying out and shows the customer nobody has opened the bag.
Keep the seal area free of sugar dust or the seal lifts. Fill from a scoop or tongs rather than by hand, and wipe the inside of the top edge before sealing.
An impulse sealer on a low setting is enough for clear PET / PE. Run a test bag and pull the seal apart to check it bonded along the full width.
Bags sized to the scoop with no room to tie. A 100 g bag filled to the top cannot be gathered and the tie slips off.
Thin film on heavy sweets. A 500 g bag of boiled sweets needs a thicker BOPP or it tears at the corner on the way home.
Printing the logo where the tie sits. Keep the print on the lower two thirds of the bag so the gather does not hide it.
Chocolate in a clear bag on a sunny counter. It blooms grey within days. Use foil or keep it out of the window.
Yes, and many do. A 50 g flat bag with a ribbon and a one colour print of the couple's initials is a cheap favour that guests keep.
Party bag sellers use the same bags with a cartoon print for children's parties and Halloween trick or treat. Easter and Valentine's lines run the same way with a seasonal colour.
For a shaped favour bag, a die cut outline is an option; see our die cut bags in custom shapes.
