Will sugar scrub oil leak through the pouch?
Not through a foil or metallised laminate. Plain clear film is the one to avoid for oily scrubs, since oil migrates through it and marks the print.

Quoted per order, from £0.25 a pouch
Flat sachets for a single soak and zipper stand up pouches for a month of scrubs, printed with your fragrance artwork. Foil and metallised films keep salts dry and stop scrub oils seeping through the print.
The short version
Bath salt and scrub pouches are flexible film packs for salts, soaks, sugar scrubs and salt scrubs. Small flat sachets hold one dose behind a tear notch; larger stand up pouches add a zipper so the customer can reseal between uses. Both are made to your fill weight and printed with your artwork.

A bath salt pouch is a sealed film pack that holds dry salts or an oil-based scrub until the customer opens it. The photos show both shapes we print: a flat three side seal sachet with a tear notch, and a stand up pouch with a bottom gusset and a zipper.
The sachet is for one use. The customer tears the notch, tips the salts into the bath and bins the empty pack.
The stand up pouch is for repeat use. A press-to-close zipper sits above the fill, so a sugar scrub stays covered between showers and the salts do not pull in damp bathroom air.
Most orders come from small UK bath and body brands that started with jars and want a lighter pack for post. A pouch weighs a fraction of a glass jar and does not break in a parcel.
We also print them for spa gift sets and favours that need a one-dose pack. See the full list of pouches grouped by what they hold if your range goes beyond bath products.
The choice comes down to how much product the customer uses at once. A foot soak is one dose, so a sachet suits it. A body scrub lasts weeks, so it needs a zipper.
Some brands run both. The sachet is the sample and the stand up pouch is the full size, in the same artwork. Our printed sachets for single doses page covers the smaller format in more detail.
| Format | Holds | Closure | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Three side seal sachet | 20 g to 100 g | Tear notch, no zipper | One soak, samples, favours |
| Stand up pouch | 150 g to 1 kg | Press-to-close zipper | Scrubs and salts used over weeks |
| Flat bottom bag | 1 kg and up | Zipper, wide base | Salon and spa bulk salts |
Salts are dense, so a small pouch holds more than you expect. Fine Epsom salt packs at roughly 1 g per ml, so 250 g needs about 250 ml of space plus room above the zipper to seal.
Coarse Dead Sea or Himalayan salt is lumpier and traps air. Allow 20 to 30 percent more space for the same weight.
Scrubs are different again. Sugar bound with oil sits heavy and does not pour, so it is often filled by spoon or piston into a wider, shorter pouch.
Our stand up pouch size guide for UK brands lists dimensions by fill weight. Send us your fill weight and we size the pouch from it.
Salt pulls moisture from the air. In a thin single layer bag it clumps into a brick within weeks, and in a damp bathroom it can turn to brine.
A PET / foil / PE laminate stops that. The foil layer blocks water vapour and also keeps the fragrance oils from escaping, so the scent on opening is the one you blended.
Oil is the second problem. Scrub oils migrate through plain films and leave greasy patches on the outside print. Foil or metallised PET holds the oil inside, which is why the photos show a metallised sachet rather than a clear one.
Food-contact, high-barrier and compostable film options are available on request and confirmed on your quote. Our guide to barrier films and pouch laminates explains each layer.
Sachets take a tear notch on one or both sides. Ask for a notch at the top corner if the customer should pour from the short edge.
Stand up pouches take a press-to-close zipper as standard. A slider zipper is an option for scrubs, because greasy fingers find a slider easier than a press track.
Windows let coloured salts sell themselves. A frosted window softens the look and hides minor settling. Skip the window on an oily scrub, because the oil smears the inside of the film and looks poor.
A hang hole above the seal suits salon and gift shop pegs. Our stand up pouches with a window page shows the window shapes we cut.
Bath brands sell on scent and mood, so the print matters more than on most pouches. A soft touch matte finish gives a velvet feel in the hand. Spot gloss over matte lifts a logo or a botanical line drawing.
On a metallised or foil film, colours print over a white under-print. Leave areas without white if you want the silver to show through, as the lilac sachet in the photos does.
Leave space on the back for the ingredient list, weight, batch code and any warnings your product needs. Our designers set up the panels free and send a proof. The guide to preparing artwork for printed pouches lists the file formats we accept.
Salt grains caught in the top seal are the main cause of leaking sachets. This order of work keeps the seal clean on a hand-fill bench or a small sachet machine.
Scrubs do not pour, so they are piped or spooned into the base of the pouch. Keep the top 30 mm of the inside clean, because oil on the seal area stops the film bonding.
A paper collar folded over the mouth of the pouch during filling catches drips. Pull it out before sealing.
If a pouch does seal over oil, it fails slowly rather than at once. Press each pouch after sealing and set aside any that give. Our heat seal foil pouches for hand filling page covers jaw settings.
The first is choosing a clear PET / PE pouch for a scrub to show the product. Within a month the oil has crept through the seal edges and the pouch feels greasy.
The second is filling a stand up pouch right to the zipper. Customers cannot reseal it, salts spill, and the pouch goes in the bin with product left.
The third is a tear notch on a 500 g pouch with no zipper. One notch for a single dose is right; a notch on a multi-use pack leaves the customer folding the top over with a peg.
The fourth is tiny text on the ingredient panel. A pouch has less flat area than a jar label, so allow a larger back panel and keep the type readable.

Not through a foil or metallised laminate. Plain clear film is the one to avoid for oily scrubs, since oil migrates through it and marks the print.
Yes. A three side seal sachet of 30 to 60 g with a tear notch is the usual single-dose format, and it is also the cheapest pack for sampling.
Only if the customer uses the contents more than once. Single-dose sachets skip it; 250 g and larger packs almost always take one.
Yes, clear or frosted windows are cut on request. They work well on coloured salts and poorly on oily scrubs, which smear the film.
A stand up pouch of about 160 × 240 mm with a 90 mm gusset is a common size for 500 g, with space above the zipper to seal.
Yes. Soft touch matte is a popular finish for bath and body brands, and spot gloss can be added over it to pick out a logo.
Foil and metallised laminates hold essential oils in far better than clear film. Keeping the oils in is also what keeps the scent as you blended it.
Yes. Each format is quoted as its own line, and our designers adapt the same artwork to both on the free proof.
Yes. Magnesium flakes pull in moisture even faster than Epsom salt, so we suggest a foil or metallised laminate to keep them loose.
Yes, a round or slot hang hole can be punched above the top seal on sachets and stand up pouches.
Yes. Free tracked delivery to any UK address takes 2–3 business days after production, as set out on the UK delivery page.
Report a misprint within 10 days with photos and we reprint the batch or refund it. Check the proof carefully, since the proof is what we print.
